BOYS LIKE GIRLS are "Weightless"! BLG Covers All Time Low!
Posted by admin 15 Jun 2010 • 0 Comments

Martin Johnson of Boys Like Girls covered All Time Low's "Weightless" at the Bamboozle Roadshow date on June 13th, 2010 in St.Louis, MO. As per an incident with Six Flags security at a previous tour date, as All Time Low stuck up for their fans - when security guards had maced them, the band is now banned from performing there anytime soon. In response to All Time Low not being allowed to play, Martin Johnson performed a snippet of the band's song, "Weightless" and then jumped into performing Boys Like Girls' hit song, "Thunder".

CALL TO PRESERVE - "LIFE OF DEFIANCE" << ALBUM REVIEW

Have you ever been in that mood where you just want to pick up a chair and throw it with all of your strength against the wall? Do you know that feeling where you just want to destroy anything and everything around you and completely let out all the anger built up inside you? Well, say hello to Call To Preserve as they grant you entrance into the world of destruction, but in a healthier way - through music. "Life Of Defiance" - Call To Preserve's latest album provides long time fans, along with newcomers - an escape. Full of heavy guitar rifts, kickass breakdowns, and overpowering vocals (in the sweetest way possible) - Call To Preserve definitely delivers. Although it may differentiate from albums of their past, after a couple of listens - this fresh, new sound only adds to Call To Preserve's evolution.

With the hardcore scene varying between bands now adding "autotune" to their screams or playing based on an image, it's tough nowadays to find a band that will stick to their original guns. Call To Preserve has never faltered in that area, as their dedication and uniqueness stand out in the sea of so-called hardcore bands of recent. A lot of bands of today are still either struggling to find their sound, trying to do something different - but ultimately sounding the same as the millions of other bands out there, or it just doesn't work - but you see Call To Preserve. works. They stick to their original guns, but in a way that they can still evolve. Many bands make the mistake of trying something too different - and ultimately in the end, lose their hardcore, 'main, original' fan base. Well, let's put it simply - fans will NOT be disappointed in this album. One of the only letdowns of this album, is the fact that most tracks are not long than 2-3 minutes.

Don't be too quick to judge off the first track, the title track "LIfe Of Defiance". Personally, from a first and second listen of the track, I wasn't too big of a fan of it, nor would I use it to really describe the album's vibe. Stick out tracks are "Empty Promises, "The Weight", and "Across The Isle". The constant 'yelling' of the lead vocalist, John - gives listeners a chance to take note of the passion he has within performing. The combination of the guitar rifts, the bass player, and heavy-double bass drumming, automatically makes the listener want to 'nod' along - or even 'head-bang'. What's most noticeable which makes Call To Preserve stand out - is the fact that their lyrics are rather positive, rather than negative (like the majority of metal bands out there nowadays).

On a scale of 1-10, I'd give this album a solid 7. For long time fans of Call To Preserve - give this album a couple of listens, you'd be surprised. It may vary from their original music, but let them think outside the box for a little bit, you'd be surprised at the master-pieces this newer way of thinking will allow them to go. For fans just tuning into the ride, be sure to pick up your copy of "Life Of Defiance" now!

THE ROCKET SUMMER
In another heated date of the Vans Warped Tour - Bryce Avary of 'The Rocket Summer' was kind enough to spend some time with us, chill out, and catch up on what 'The Rocket Summer' has been up to! The Rocket Summer will be performing on the full length, two months Warped Tour. Be sure to check out The Rocket Summer on the Vans Warped Tour this summer! Before the press started, I hadn't arranged to set anything up with Bryce aka 'The Rocket Summer', but as I was approaching the press tent - i saw Bryce sitting there and asked if he had some time to speak. Without hesitation we set something up, and I have to say he is probably one of the most 'real', 'down-to-Earth' guys' you will ever meet. He's truly a sweetheart and he shows it within his music.
