On March 13th, I had the opportunity to speak briefly with Escape The Fate lead vocalist Craig Mabbitt about his band’s new single and music video, “Ungrateful,” the band’s return after a two year hiatus, and a little bit about Escape The Fate’s forthcoming album. Most revealing of all perhaps isn’t Mabbitt’s appreciation for “Started from The Bottom” rapper Drake or his Degrassi references, but when Mabbitt vocalizes his sincere gratitude for fans who are still sticking by the band’s side, despite the brief hiatus.
Escape The Fate is set to be release their new album, Ungrateful, on May 14th through Eleven Seven Music. Currently, the band is completing a Texas-festival tour run and will extend their touring with a headlining run with The Color Morale, Glamour of the Kill and As Thick As Thieves. Along with the headlining run, Escape The Fate will perform separately with label mates, Papa Roach. You can also follow Craig on Twitter here and the band here.
What’s big for you guys right now is clearly your return and the new album. What can you tell us about the album?
Craig: Well, it’s fucking great. That’s the main thing that I can say. That’s what anyone would say about their own album. The process was the most intense process of making it that I’ve ever been through in my life. The band broke up probably two times and we changed producers about four times. Then, we decided to do it on our own. But, I couldn’t be happier with the result. I haven’t been this excited about an album since I released my first album with this band.
Do you think the album gained something special by you guys producing it yourselves?
Craig: I think so, yeah. I’d agree with that.
After returning after two years, what’re you hoping others gain from this album? Are you trying to prove anything?
Craig: I think the main thing we’re trying to prove is saying to people, “hey, what’s up? We’re still here.” [laughs] You know? On top of that, we’re trying to get further than we got before.
