Marianas Trench is gearing up to head out on the road alongside fellow Canadian-natives, Simple Plan. In the meantime, Marianas Trench took the time out to sit down with us and chat about what’s in store for the band. The band is really riding the ‘popularity wave’, as their album will now be releasing a week earlier on a huge nationwide tour. With their unique style and music, it’s no wonder why Marianas Trench is easily becoming a fan favorite around the country. Be sure to pick up your own copy of Ever After on November 21st, which will now be released a week earlier. I guess that means it’ll be available a week earlier for all of you illegal downloaders, but don’t hesitate in actually purchasing the album. These guys do work like there’s no tomorrow after all, so be sure to go and support them in their endeavors. Trust me, Marianas Trench is worth every penny.
ALM PROMO: Thanks for taking the time out to do this! Can you begin by introducing yourselves?
IAN: I’m the backwards man, I’m the backwards man, I’m the backwards man, I’m the backwards can. Ian the drummer in Marianas Trench.
ALM PROMO: Well, you definitely just announced some exciting news! Later this fall, you’ll be touring with Simple Plan across the United States and Canada too. Seeing as though you’re both from Canada, had the two bands associate prior to this tour coming together? What’s it like knowing you’ll both represent the Canadian music scene together on tour?
IAN: We’ve played with them at a few summer festivals up in Canada, they’re great guys. Very excited to be paired up with some cool bands for sure. We are here to colonize your country with maple syrup.
ALM PROMO: When the tour was first in the makings, what was your reaction like? What are you looking most forward to with this tour? You must be beyond stoked.
IAN: We were really hoping to play as many shows as possible in the US. We love it down here and find everyone super friendly. We we’re happy to be doing quite a few shows in California to give our pasty white butts a tan and were are extremely happy to have TWO days off after the Vegas show. I plan to become a millionaire in 24 hours then to put it all on black.
ALM PROMO: While on tour – you’ll be releasing Ever After (Novemeber 29th). Will you be doing anything extra special at the New York show (the day the album releases) to celebrate the album release? As the day approaches, are you more excited or anxious for the album to be released?
IAN: The album is now coming out on Nov 21st, the night of the Chicago show. We’re stoked that its coming out a week earlier and I’d have to say that we are overall quite excited. We’re proud of Ever After and can’t wait to get it in the hands of all our fans. I personally plan to serenade Richard Gere to celebrate.ALM PROMO: For the first time on this record, there will be no breaks in between tracks – as soon as one track ends, the next will begin. Why did you decide to add no breaks this time around?
IAN: We strongly approve of run on sentences.
ALM PROMO: The track names have already been announced for Ever After and you’ve also performed a handful of the songs live. What song are you most proud of off of Ever After?
IAN: Have to say that I’m most pride of the album opener Album After. It should like it belongs on a Batman soundtrack. We actually recorded it with a symphony, one of the cooler days in the recording studio for sure.
ALM PROMO: You’ve been in formation since 2006. Since the beginning you’ve gained several accolades – such as having a song featured in Degrassi and The Vampire Diaries, being inTelevision shows, and have been featured in several publications. At what moment did you realize you were really beginning to make it and to this day what achievement are you most proud of?IAN: I think the first time you start playing in arenas you start to feel like things are coming together. We’ve moved from igloos to arenas relatively quickly I’d have to say. I’d say that I’m most proud of our fans actually, I’ve never met more passionate and supportive fans in my life, we have the best fans hands down.
ALM PROMO: Now for some less serious questions! What’s the one song on your Ipod/ITunes right now you’re embarrassed to admit that you listen to?
IAN: Hold it against me Britney Spears.
ALM PROMO: Can you reveal an embarrassing or interesting fact about your fellow band members?
IAN: We’re all genetically engineered; it didn’t work.
ALM PROMO: What’s one of the most awkward things you’ve watched your bandmates do?
IAN: Josh’s pants ripped right through the crotch at a show. He was going commando and was playing a see through guitar. True story.
ALM PROMO: With Halloween coming up soon, what was your favorite childhood costume? Any plans for an awesome costume this year?
IAN: Instead I shall share that at a previous Halloween show we dressed up as Little Bow and her long lost sheep. Josh was Peep. The rest of us we’re sheep. Mike took this one seriously, made a crazy wool sheep outfit. The guy lost 10 pounds he sweat so much during that show. I looked over, thought he was going to die. Laughed my ass off.
ALM PROMO: Thanks again for doing this! Anything you would like to say to the fans?
IAN: Just wanted to say thanks so much to all our fans for spreading the word about the band. I don’t think there is a band out there with better fans, simply amazing. Crazy, nuts, so fired up they could melt a blow torch. Can’t believe how lucky we are. Hopefully we’ll be touring all of next year. Come to your house and say hello, and make a good ham sandwich with miracle whip.
